Electoral commissioner defends slow count

The man overseeing the electoral commission insists his people must follow due process, as Australia waits for results from the weekend's election.

Commissioner Tom Rogers says he is acutely aware of the perception that the AEC is not making sufficient progress on the count, which is now focused on postal votes.

"I wish I could finish every task and produce a safe result today - right now. However, this is one of the most important tasks in Australia," he writes in The Australian on Wednesday.
