Elderly pedestrian killed in NSW crash

An elderly pedestrian has died after being hit by a car in Sydney's west.

The man, aged in his 70s, was hit on Hilltop Road in Merrylands about 6.10pm on Wednesday and died at the scene.

A woman who was driving the car that struck him wasn't injured and was taken to Westmead Hospital for mandatory tests, police said.

The death came after a truck driver was charged over a crash that killed a woman on the state's north coast.

The 43-year-old woman's car collided with the truck and another vehicle on Solitary Island Way in Coffs Harbour on Tuesday morning.

Officers from the Crash Investigation Unit and heavy vehicle inspectors investigated the smash and on Wednesday NSW Police said the truck driver's licence had been suspended and he was charged with dangerous driving occasioning death and negligent driving occasioning death.
