Elderly man killed in Sydney collision

An elderly man has died after the car he was a passenger in crashed into a traffic pole following a collision with a van in Sydney's north.

The 90-year-old woman driver and her 94-year-old male passenger were trapped in the car for some time after the accident on Saturday morning in St Ives.

The man was taken to Royal North Shore Hospital with critical injuries and later died. The woman was treated for minor injuries. The driver of the van, a 43-year-old man, was uninjured and underwent mandatory blood and urine testing.
