Elderly man dies after hit and run

An elderly pedestrian has died in hospital about 12 hours after he was critically injured in a hit and run in Sydney’s inner east.

Police are searching for footage or witnesses to the incident, which occurred around 3.30pm on Friday at Roslyn St in the harbourside suburb of Rushcutters Bay.

A NSW Police spokesman said the 77-year-old man was rushed to hospital with critical injuries.

“On arrival, officers attached to Kings Cross Police Area Command found a man had been hit by a vehicle, which had allegedly failed to stop,” he said.

“A 77-year-old was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics, before being taken to St Vincent’s hospital.”

Just after 3am on Saturday morning the Hospital confirmed he had died as a result of his injuries.

On Friday afternoon forensic officers examined the crime scene, with efforts underway to identify the vehicle and driver.

Police are now asking anyone with information to come forward.

Detectives from Kings Cross are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the collision, or who may have dashcam footage, to come forward.
