Elderly man dies after crash with Vic cops

An elderly man has died in hospital almost a month after a police car and a civilian vehicle collided on Victoria's Mornington Peninsula.

Officers tried to intercept a Holden Commodore, allegedly involved in serious offences, on April 14 in Mt Eliza but it did not stop and police pursued the car before colliding with another vehicle on Nepean Hwy.

The four occupants of the Holden were taken to hospital and the officer in the police vehicle was uninjured, but a 79-year-old Mt Eliza man died in hospital on Friday.

The force's Professional Standards Command, anti-corruption watchdog and the coroner are investigating the incident.
