Man loses licence after being hit with 12 demerit points in one go

A man has learnt about double demerit points over Easter the hard way after losing his licence over one offence.

The man was pulled over for travelling more than 140km/h in a 110km/h zone on Western Australia’s Great Northern Highway, about 30km north of Meekatharra, on Good Friday.

Meekatharra is in the state’s Mid-West region and is about 770km north of Perth.

Police in the area shared a picture of the driver’s ticket on Twitter reminding people to slow down on the roads over the long weekend.

Police said the driver explained to the officer who pulled him over he was heading to Perth.

“I don’t know how fast I was going,” he told police.

The man, behind the wheel of a Toyota Corolla, was slapped with an $800 fine and 12 demerit points. It cost him his licence.
