EastEnders' Whitney Dean faces prison threat over fostering scheme

EastEnders spoilers follow.

Whitney Dean has received an unexpected warning in EastEnders' fostering storyline.

Earlier this week, Whitney confessed to best friend Lauren Branning that she isn't legally fostering Britney Wainwright despite what she's told Zack Hudson. Instead, Whitney has agreed to pay Britney's neglectful mother cash under the table in order to get her away from Milton Keynes.

Thursday's (March 28) episode saw Lauren pressuring Whitney to be honest with Zack about her arrangement with Britney's mother. Lauren warned her friend that both Whitney and Zack could face prison sentences if the authorities ever discovered these illegal payments.

The pair later attended Peter Beale's 30th birthday, where Lauren learned from Chelsea Fox how thrilled Whitney was to have her friend back in town.

"All that stuff when she was younger, she said she couldn't have got through it without you," Chelsea told Lauren.

Lauren stepped up to the microphone for a birthday toast, but instead looked at Whitney as she reminded her that friends support one another during their highest and lowest moments.

As Lauren rejoined Whitney at the table, she warned her friend that she was running out of time to come clean about Britney. However, once they got back home, Lauren was swayed by seeing just how happy Zack and Britney were to be spending time together.

"We'll just see how she goes but you are going to tell [Zack]," Lauren insisted.

Whitney conceded: "I know. I will. I promise."
