Dwayne Johnson may pick on Ryan Reynolds, but at the end of the day, they’re just two dads trying their best.

The Black Adam star, who often uses social media to gush over his daughters Simone, 20; Jasmine, 5; and Tiana, 3; spoke to Fatherly about how he approaches parenthood. He explained to the outlet, “What was intentional, was doing my best to be a better dad than my dad was for me. And my dad loved me with the capacity that he had, but we had a challenging, complicated relationship. So now with my daughters, especially my younger daughters, the intention is to just be a good dad and be there. That means taking them to school every morning, picking them up, taking them to soccer, being that dad.”

That also means making sure they're focused on things outside of their physical appearance, telling the outlet, "I think what we’ve been doing with our babies is making sure that they understand the importance of making healthy choices and not necessarily worrying about, well, how do you look and how do you not look now?"

Johnson also shared that his Red Notice co-star Reynolds, with whom he has a friendly rivalry, can relate to the large role fatherhood plays in his life.

“We’re like an old couple and we fight and we bicker and we love each other. We have a lot in common,” the Jungle Cruise star noted. “We are obviously dads, we love our babies, we love our work. We work too much, love what we do, love to fish, love to have fun, tell jokes, love to make each other laugh. [We] ruined takes all the time. I’m very proud of his success and what he’s been able to do.”

Recently, Reynolds — who shares three kids with his wife Blake Lively — announced he’s taking a step back from acting in order to focus on his family. He told The Hollywood Reporter at the WSJ. Magazine Innovator Awards, "I'm just trying to create a little bit more space for my family and time with them. You know, you don't really get that time back."

The Deadpool star previously explained to People that he and his wife don’t like to work at the same time, for the sake of their family.

"If she is doing a movie in Thailand and I am doing a movie in Vancouver we would just never see each other,” he said at the time. “We operate as a unit, and that works really well for us. The kids stay with us, and the family stays together, and that is where home is. So if we are in Spain or Utah or New York, as long as we are together, we’re home."
