Drunk online shopper wakes to find he's bought a peacock, pig and salamander

While China’s equivalent of Click Frenzy, Singles’ Day, once again broke all records for cash spent earlier this week, one intoxicated shopper made his contribution to the grand total in truly bizarre fashion.

An unidentified Chinese man has claimed to have purchased a live pig, a peacock and a giant salamander during the annual internet shopping frenzy on November 11, The South China Morning Post reported.

A screenshot of the man’s drunken exploits from a local messaging service were documented in a viral post on Weibo, China’s equivalent of Twitter.

“In the early hours of yesterday morning, when I was drunk, I clicked on Taobao and started shopping,” he explained.

“All along I thought I had only bought two sets of clothes.

“I suddenly remembered to look up the delivery date of my clothes, and realised I had also bought a pig and a peacock.”

His purchases on the site, similar to eBay, were accompanied by a giant salamander he’d bought on JD.com.

Shared online by user Puzhecu, the post quickly garnered 10,000 likes and comments as well as 14,000 reposts.

The man shared screenshots of his sales transactions, which showed that he bought a “live Thailand micropig” for 278 yuan ($56), a “live blue peacock” for 390 yuan ($78), and a “live wild salamander weighing between 1.4kg to 1.6kg” for 288 yuan ($57).

His purchases added to the ground breaking total of $42.4 billion spent during the event initially organised by Alibaba 10 years ago.

While the trade of animals online is legal in China, the majority traded online are endangered and prohibited, the South China Morning Post reported.
