Drunk hedgehogs taken into captivity after a big bender

Two hedgehogs are recovering from what is likely a shocking hangover, after being found next to a broken bottle of alcoholic eggnog.

The spiky pair had blacked out and were found by police in a playground in central Germany on Sunday basically motionless, next to the bottle of alcohol.

“Now they seem to have had the consequences of their consumption,” a translation of a local police Facebook post read.

“Communication and personal data recording with the duo were extremely difficult, since both had very vague memories of events, their environment and their earthly existence,” the post said in jest.

The post said two police officers put the pair in a towel before taking them to the Thüringer Zoopark.

It’s believed authorities were contacted after a concerned passerby spotted the inebriated duo.

The pair are sobering up, with one said to be back on its feet already.

As soon as both of them are feeling up to it they will be released back into the wild.

Authorities said while this story might seem amusing, there could be very serious consequences of carelessly leaving dangerous objects, such as bottles of alcohol, in a public area, particularly where there are children playing and animals living.

“Please dispose of your garbage in the available garbage cans!” the authorities said.
