Drug, alcohol rehab listed by jobseekers

More than 2200 jobseekers have undertaken drug and alcohol treatment under tough welfare requirements introduced by the federal government.

Welfare recipients can now list rehabilitation and counselling services under their activity requirements to get Centrelink payments, with 2222 doing so since the beginning of the year, The Australian reports.

"The new compliance system enables early identification of those with drug and alcohol addictions and ensures that they are able to get assistance, and ultimately find employment," federal Jobs Minister Michaelia Cash said on Monday.
