A series of photographs, captured from a drone, showed extensive destruction in Vovchansk, Kharkiv Oblast due to the Russian advance and relentless shelling of the city, Ukrainian journalist Yuriy Butusov released on Telegram on May 18.

"This is the current state of the city of Vovchansk in Kharkiv Oblast, continuously under enemy fire," Butusov said.

"The consistent strategy of Russian aggression is to render cities and lands uninhabitable. Where 'Russian peace' reigns, death and devastation follow."

Russia killing Vovchansk civilians

Russians started “hunting” civilian and police vehicles in Vovchansk, head of Kharkiv’s State Police Investigation Department, Serhiy Bolvinov, reported on May 16.

Ukraine’s Internal Affairs Minister Ihor Klymenko reported that Russian forces are taking civilians hostage, executing some, and seizing property in Vovchansk. One Vovchansk resident who tried to escape and refused to obey the invaders was killed.

Russian soldiers reportedly shot a disabled man on May 17 near a local hospital in Vovchansk and left him in his wheelchair in the middle of a devastated street.
