The video, released by Victoria Police on Tuesday, shows the grandmother holding hands with the toddler, using a pedestrian crossing at Glen Huntly.

As they crossed the road they were struck by a Toyota RAV 4, which was turning from Booran Road into Glen Huntly Road.

The Toyota can be seen pulled over to the side of the road, while the woman and toddler are on the ground.

The driver approached the pair and told the group she was going to call a doctor, but instead returned to her vehicle and drove off, according to police.

Her granddaughter miraculously escaped with cuts and bruising, but was left traumatised.

The driver is described as a middle-aged woman who was driving a black Toyota RAV4.
