Driver's unbelievable excuse for going almost three times the speed limit

A motorist clocked speeding nearly three times the speed limit in Sydney’s southwest provided a bizarre excuse to officers when pulled over.

Highway Patrol officers detected a grey Volkswagon Golf travelling at 132km/h in a 50 zone through Riverwood at about 5pm on Sunday.

When speaking with officers the driver told them: “I just washed it, I was going for a spin around the block”.

Sharing the incident to Facebook, Traffic and Highway Patrol Command drew in a mixed bag of comments.

“He should never get a licence again,’ one person said in disbelief at the severity of the driver’s actions.

Others focused on the motorist’s method to dry off the vehicle.

“Would’ve cost him less to blow dry his car,” one person said.

Traffic and Highway Patrol Command suggested the driver should have used a chamois cloth.

The driver is due to appear at Bankstown Local Court at a later date for driving at a speed dangerous to the public.

A Melbourne motorist earlier this year told police he was speeding because he was desperate for the toilet.
