Gut-wrenching video has been shared of a leashed dog desperately running after a truck as it pulled out of a service station with the pet still tied to the vehicle.
Just by chance, a police patrol car happened to be at the petrol station as the semi-trailer took off and spotted the tethered animal giving chase, trying to keep up with the rig. An Arizona sheriff’s office shared dashcam footage of the incident.
The Patrol Volunteer in Protection (VIP) car tooted its horn, but the driver failed to notice, so its lights and siren were then activated alerting the truck to pull over.

The driver told police volunteers he had made the potentially fatal mistake of forgetting the dog had been leashed to the back of the truck before driving away.
“A very grateful owner retrieved his pet and expressed deep appreciation for the VIP’s efforts,” the Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office said in an online statement.
“Patrol VIPs act only as eyes and ears when they are in the field, but this exception to use lights and siren to save this dog from injury or death has been deemed warranted by YCSO Command Staff.”
Police said the driver “was simply distracted” as he headed towards the highway and forgot to unleash his dog.
No charges are being sought.
