Driver fined almost $500 for watching a movie at traffic lights


A 35-year-old man found out that no one is above the law after he was caught watching a Steven Seagal movie on his phone while driving in Heidelberg in Melbourne on Monday.

Heidelberg uniform members could hardly believe their eyes when they approached the man on foot while he was waiting for the lights to change at the intersection of Lower Heidelberg Road and Banksia Street, police said.

Police noticed the man had his mobile phone sitting on his lap and was watching a video about 7.05am.

After walking to up to the window and observing the screen for a few seconds, the policeman recognised the driver was watching a Steven Seagul action movie while driving.

The man has been forced to pay $476 for the viewing experience.

The Glen Iris man was one of eight drivers who police caught on their mobile phones at the intersection within a half hour period.
