An allegedly drug-affected driver has rammed a police car as officers tried to pull over his vehicle in Victoria's south west.

The silver Hyundai Excel with no registration plates allegedly sped off after an attempted intercept in the Geelong suburb of Whittington on Thursday night, before it rammed the police car as it pulled up alongside.

The driver, a 20-year-old Leopold man, was arrested and charged with ramming a police vehicle, drug driving and other offences, while his 23-year-old Whittington male passenger was arrested but then released without charge.
