Driver accused of CBD horror rampage
The court case of accused killer driver Zain Khan has been pushed back by a month, Victoria’s Supreme Court has been told.
Mr Khan, 27, was charged with nine offences, including murder and attempted murder, after he allegedly ran down pedestrians on Bourke St in Melbourne’s CBD.
Prosecutors will allege he “intentionally” drove his mother’s white Toyota sedan down the tram tracks about 6.20pm on September 8 last year, striking three pedestrians before colliding with two cars.
A driver of one of the vehicles, a 76-year-old man, died at the scene while five others were rushed to hospital.
Mr Khan returned before judicial registrar Elizabeth Tuno on Monday after pleading not guilty to all charges in the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court in January.
He was represented by barrister Julia Munster as Ms Tuno adjourned the case for four weeks.
Mr Khan will next appear in court for a directions hearing on September 2.
