Dramatic rescue after three kayakers were stranded in mud

Three stranded kayakers are now safe following a dramatic rescue in Victoria’s Gippsland region early Christmas morning.

Police have been told two men and a woman set off to kayak through Andersons inlet in the mid afternoon on Christmas Eve.

A 29-year-old man and woman from Bendigo, and their 58-year-old male companion from Erica, set off on Christmas Eve, but became stranded in shallow mud off Venus Bay.

The kayakers found they were still unable to move after remaining stuck for several hours, so they called 000.

Around midnight, Polair reached the trio and winched them to safety at Inverloch where they were met by police and paramedics.

The group were not physically injured during the incident.
