An 11-year-old boy was mauled to death by dogs outside a house in Russia where his parents were busy with a days-long New Year's party, investigators say.
According to investigators, the family went to visit friends near Moscow for the holiday.
The host family breeds dogs and, unnoticed by the adults, the boy went outside to them at some point during the celebrations, and he was attacked.
The boy died at the scene, investigators say. But the adults were so occupied with eating and drinking during a party that stretched on for days that no one noticed his absence, according to media reports.
Other children at the party were also ignored, according to the reports.
The body was found by an acquaintance on Saturday.
When officers found the mother to tell her about the death, she was reportedly intoxicated. Police have now begun an investigation into possible negligent homicide.
