'Vile heartless person': Pet owners on alert after dog bait warning at park

A chilling warning to dog owners has been posted at a waterfront on the NSW Central Coast.

The sign posted along the popular waterside walking track at Woy Woy reads: “Some vile heartless person has put out dog bait using poisonous smackos. Be careful.”

A photo of the sign was posted on a Facebook page putting local dog owners on high alert.

Accompanying the post was the comment: “What a sad person.”

“What kind of people do this?” one person responded.

“You have to be careful these days,” another person added.

“Who would want to hurt an innocent animal?” someone wrote.

The sign has even led to some local dog owners in the area to question odd items they spotted on their walks.

“I wonder if that was what was in that random container we saw on the walk?” one woman said, tagging a friend.

“That’s horrible I wish I knew, I would have thrown it out. Disgraceful,” the friend tagged in the post responded.

A few people speculated it may be a cruel prank by a disgruntled local and were doing some investigating.

“Are there no cameras anywhere near there? It might be a long shot but maybe worth a try to speak with people who live close by to check their home security videos,” one person suggested.

“No matter what the reason, and there is no comprehensible reason, it does not justify this person baiting dogs,” a dog lover wrote.
