Dog who was abandoned in video that went viral finds new home

A dog who went viral after video emerged of him being dumped at the side of a road has found a new home.

The pooch, a Staffordshire bull terrier named Snoop, was filmed jumping up at a car window after the driver left him and his dog bed on the side of a road at Trentham, north of Birmingham, not long before Christmas.

RSPCA inspector Natalie Perehovsky said at the time the footage was “just awful”.

But following an appeal which went viral, Snoop has finally found a home.

Laurence Squire, 50, has taken Snoop in after his dog, also a Staffie, died in November.

“They are such a loving breed and so I started to look for another one,” Mr Squire said.

“I contacted the RSPCA and said that I was looking for a male Staffie, around one to two years old, and one evening I was watching the news when Snoop’s story came on.

“What happened to him was shocking, and it was clear from the footage – in the way that he tried to get back into the car – that he was a loyal dog.”

Mr Squire thought Snoop was perfect for him and he realised he could offer the pooch the “home he deserved”.

“As soon as he came into the house for the first time, he jumped on the sofa and it was as though he decided that was the space for him,” he said.

“He loves being warm and if he can find his way into a bedroom, you’ll find him under
the duvet with his head on the pillow.”

He added Snoop was still wary of getting into cars but was settling in.

RSPCA spokeswoman Rachel Butler said Snoop seemed happy in his new abode.

“When I visited Snoop in his new home, I could tell straight away that he was in the right place,” she said.

“He and Laurence already have a strong bond and Snoop absolutely dotes on him.”
