Doctor Who has confirmed that the final two episodes of season 14 will screen in cinemas.

Ncuti Gatwa's debut season as the Doctor is currently in the middle of its run – and UK fans will be able to experience its finale on the big screen next month.

The penultimate episode 'The Legend of Ruby Sunday' – which originally premieres on TV the weekend before on June 15 – is set to show in cinemas at 11pm BST on June 21.

The finale 'Empire of Death' will then screen at the same time as its BBC iPlayer release at the stroke of midnight on June 22.

Tickets are on sale now alongside a list of cinemas that will host the special double bill – more information can be found here.

“This is a great big rip-roaring finale with the Doctor, Ruby and friends old and new fighting the greatest enemy of their lives," showrunner Russell T Davies said. "I can’t wait for everyone to see it!”

BBC Studios' global business director Dominic Walker added: “We’re delighted to be working with CinemaLive at such an exciting time for Doctor Who to bring the finale of Ncuti Gatwa’s first season as the Doctor to the big screen across the UK.

"Whovians are such a big part of Doctor Who so it was important for us to celebrate the end of the series with an event for fans to come together and celebrate all things Whoniverse. We can’t wait for fans to see what is in store to conclude the Fifteenth Doctor’s first season.”

The current season is set to continue this weekend with fourth episode '73 Yards', which Davies says will feature the show's "strangest villain" yet.

Doctor Who debuts new episodes at midnight on Saturday, airing on BBC One in the UK and Disney+ elsewhere. Classic episodes of Doctor Who are available on BBC iPlayer in the UK.
