Diver Encounters Mako Shark Near Hawaiian Coast

A freediving instructor spotted an endangered mako shark off the Waikiki coast in Honolulu, Hawaii.

This footage, recorded by Josh Munoz, shows the shark passing underneath him and a class of freediving students.

Munoz told Storyful that it was a special moment to see a mako shark so close the shore.

“This shark was spotted in about 600 feet of water just outside Waikiki,” he said.

“Seeing sharks in the ocean is not something uncommon or rare, I understand, I am in their home, however, to see a mako is much more rare and especially how close to shore I was.

“The shark did 6-8 passes just below our feet then swam back down to deep waters.”
