Disturbing footage shows mother screaming in pain during police arrest

Confronting vision has emerged of a mother screaming in pain after being arrested by police in Western Australia.

The woman begged for medical attention but was instead taunted for faking her injury.

Two officers dragged her up stairs and into a holding cell at Fremantle Police Station.

Her hip was dislocated during her arrest, but not one officer believed her.

“I’m not faking, I’m not faking,” she can be heard saying in the footage.

It was in the early hours of New Year’s Day 2017 and the woman had been arrested after her daughter failed a breath test.

She is denied water and taunted by a female officer who says: “Is your daughter embarrassed by you?

“Is that why she high tailed it out of here? Because I’d be embarrassed of you, too.”

It’s five-and-a-half hours before a new shift starts, when help is finally called.

The Crime and Corruption Commission handed down a scathing report, calling her treatment unjust and oppressive.

“There was a cascading failure of duty throughout this incident and no member of the community should be treated like this,” CCC commissioner John McKechnie said.

“We process many thousands of people every year and we don’t always get it right,” WA Police Commissioner Chris Dawson said.

“What I am saying here, clearly is that we did not get it right and for that I am sorry.”

Once a bank, Fremantle Police Station is not “purpose built” for policing, but the Police Commissioner said the building was no excuse for the woman’s treatment.

The CCC and the Police Union have recommended an urgent upgrade.

A total of 12 police officers will be disciplined in relation to the arrest, with the female police officer captured taunting the injured woman stood down.

She is arguing her case to the WA Police Commissioner as to why she should keep her job.
