Disturbing details as woman found dead in Melbourne home

A woman has died in Melbourne on Saturday night, following reports of an alleged assault, leaving neighbours on the quiet street shocked.

At around 10.15pm emergency services were called to an address on Patrick Avenue in Croydon North and paramedics attended to a woman found at the scene with critical injuries.

Victoria Police said the woman died at the scene and is yet to be formally identified.

One neighbour told the Herald Sun he heard something on Saturday night, believing it to be an altercation between animals.

“I got woken up last night, I got out of bed — I actually thought it might’ve been a cat trying to kill a possum," the man said.

“Didn’t expect anything like this.”

Homicide detectives are now investigating the circumstances surrounding the woman's death and a man from Croydon North who is aged in his 40s is assisting police with their enquiries.

No charges have been laid in relation to the incident, police told Yahoo News on Sunday morning. Police will provide further details later on Sunday.

Residents in the area were shocked to find out about the death, with one person telling the Herald Sun it was a quiet street.

Anyone with information about the incident is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or submit a confidential report online.
