Disturbing find in burnt-out car

Police have launched an investigation after a man’s body was found inside a torched car in northern NSW.

Emergency services were called to Simpsons Ridge Road in South Arm, about 25km west of Nambucca Heads, at about 2pm on Monday after seeing smoke coming from bushland.

A car was found on fire at the scene with nearby scrub also ablaze.

After firefighters extinguished the fire, they discovered a man’s body inside the vehicle.

Though he has not been formally identified, police are now speaking with the family of an 86-year-old man last seen driving that car at nearby Macksville at about 11am.

Police have confirmed an autopsy will be performedon the body in the coming days to confirm the man’s identity and cause of death.
