Dingo attack puts young girl in hospital
Paramedics have rushed a girl to hospital after she was bitten by a dingo on Queensland’s popular K’gari island.
The child-age girl suffered puncture wounds to her abdomen and scratches on her back in the bite attack, a Queensland Ambulance Services spokeswoman told NewsWire.
She was flown to Hervey Bay Hospital in a stable condition early Saturday afternoon.
The attack happened at Orchid Beach, at the top end of the island.
K’gari, formerly known as Fraser Island, is about 400km north of Brisbane.
The island was marred by a series of dingo attacks in 2023.
An eight-year-old boy was attacked in early July that year and a 10-year-old boy was dragged under the water by a dingo in June.
In mid-July, a 24-year-old woman was hospitalised after she was attacked by a pack of dingoes while out jogging on the beach.
A six-year-old girl was hospitalised with puncture wounds to her head and hand after a dingo attack in April.
Altogether, there were more than 100 high-risk or threatening interactions between dingoes and people in 2023.
