Diner humiliated after restaurant staff put rude nickname on receipt

A man claims he’s been hurt and embarrassed by a nickname printed on his fast food receipt.

Jimmy Shue placed an order for a burger at Wendy’s in North Carolina on October 4 but when he was handed the receipt he saw the nickname “Chubby” was printed for on it, WCNC reports.

He told WCNC he gave his name to the cashier as “clear as day” but someone also called out “Chubby” when his order was ready.

“Everybody started laughing in the restaurant and I got really embarrassed,” Mr Shue said.

Mr Shue told WYFF he was “hurt” by what happened.

“I kind of felt like I was being targeted because of my weight,” Mr Shue said.

“And that’s not right for anybody to go through that.”

Carolina Restaurant Group, which owns this particular Wendy’s in Gastonia, told WBTV in a statement it is investigating and has taken “appropriate action”.

It’s not clear what that action was.

Mr Shue said he was given a similar statement but wants an apology.

In April, a grandfather was left shocked after he saw the word c*** printed on a receipt for his lottery winnings.

However, not all notes left on receipts have been bad.

In August, a new trend emerged in the US for customers leaving extravagant tips for waiters – some tipping up to 500 per cent.
