Mum arrested after 'strangling disabled non-verbal son'

A mother-of-six has been arrested after allegedly strangling her disabled son while screaming that she wanted him to die.

Gidget Quilter, from Utah in the US, is accused of attacking her severely autistic 21-year-old son and throwing a pair of scissors at another one of her children.

In a probable cause statement, the 42-year-old mother told police her son had “defecated and thrown faeces all over his room”, US news station WGN9 reported.

Ms Quilter allegedly choked her son and pushed him to the floor, where she straddled him and pinned down his arms. Thankfully, he survived the attack.

The statement said she applied so much pressure to his neck “the screaming stopped because she cut his ability to breathe off”.

According to police, Ms Quilter’s daughter was able to capture an audio recording, where two of her other children can be heard begging her to stop the attack.

Ms Quilter can be heard yelling, “die you – die you little f***”, at one point in the recording.

After trying – and failing – to get her daughter to change her story, Ms Quilter was remanded in custody without bail.

She has been charged with six counts of domestic violence in the presence of a child, one count of tampering with a witness and one count of aggravated assault committed with force to injure.

Her husband now has custody of the children. The 21-year-old man is reportedly now living with his brother.
