Beyoncé's Cécred haircare brand has arrived

Beyoncé teased her first foray into haircare to much fanfare last May, setting the 'Bey-Hive' abuzz with talk of the pop megastar's beauty venture, not only because of her own enviable hair looks, but her close relationship to the world of hair, too (more on that, below).

Today, she finally launches Cécred, coined as 'hair-honouring care, validated by science'. "The journey of creating Cécred has taken years, and I’m so proud to finally reveal what we’ve been working on," Beyoncé announced in a press release. As hoped, inclusivity is at the heart of the brand. "As a Black founder, it was important to me to concentrate on where I saw the greatest need for healthy haircare and to place scientific innovation and product performance above all else," she continues. "We started by prioritising the needs of textured hair like mine, along with other types and textures that need more moisture and strength."

Within the brand's debut 'Foundation Collection' range comes a Clarifying Shampoo & Scalp Scrub; Hydrating Shampoo; Moisturizing Deep Conditioner; Reconstructing Treatment Mask; Moisture Sealing Lotion and Nourishing Hair Oil – with more coming soon.

Beyoncé says: "My entire life and career, I’ve worn my hair in so many different ways: natural, flat-ironed, braids, coloured, weaves, wigs. I want everyone to have the freedom to express their hair in ways that make them feel good, so I began by creating the essentials for hair and scalp health."

All products are infused with a signature oud fragrance, and the packaging architectural – like ancient stone structures.

Having grown up sweeping hair in her mother Tina Knowles’ Texas-based salon – where Destiny's Child got their start by performing for clients while they were having their hair done – Beyoncé's passion for haircare is long-standing.

"I was exposed to so many different kinds of entrepreneurial women in her salon," she shared in a previous Instagram post. "I saw first hand how the ways we nurture and celebrate hair can directly impact our souls. I watched her heal and be of service to so many women. Having learnt so much on my hair journey, I've always dreamed of carrying on her legacy. I can't wait for you to experience what I've been creating."

Considering that everything Beyoncé touches turns to gold (and not to mention her extensive, beautiful hairstyle repertoire), neither can we. The brand's philosophy of performance-first means years of research and testing has gone into Cécred, though no doubt it will sell in record speed.
