Diana Taurasi and wife Penny Taylor welcome second child hours after Mercury's win in Game 5

Phoenix Mercury star Diana Taurasi told wife Penny Taylor to hold on and it worked. Following the Mercury's win in Game 5 of the semifinals, Taurasi raced against time to try and get to the hospital for the birth of her second child.

After dropping 24 points, Taurasi hopped on a plane and flew back home to witness the birth of her daughter. Taurasi made it. At 4:24 a.m., Taurasi and Taylor welcomed their second child together.

Taylor's pregnancy became a major story during the Mercury's playoff run. Taylor was originally due Oct. 6, and some Mercury fans feared Taurasi would have to miss a semifinals game to be there for the child's birth. After Oct. 6 came and went, Taurasi deemed herself "hour-to-hour," knowing she could be called away from the team at any minute.

That call finally came Friday. Knowing it would take a few hours to get to the hospital, Taurasi urged Taylor to "hold it in" during a post-game interview with ESPN.

Taylor and the baby cooperated, and Taurasi was present when her daughter was born.

Diana Taurasi should be available for WNBA Finals

With the baby here, Taurasi should be available for every game of the WNBA Finals. The Mercury will take on the Chicago Sky in the Finals after the Sky's upset win over the Connecticut Sun.

Taurasi will look for her fourth WNBA Finals victory in the series. She's put up strong numbers in the Finals, being named WNBA Finals MVP in both 2009 and 2014.

For the Sky, it will mark the second time in franchise history the team reached the Finals. They will be looking for revenge after being swept by Taurasi and the Mercury in 2014.

Game 1 of the WNBA Finals will take place Sunday, Oct. 10.
