MATT HARMON: I'm a big, big fan here of DeVonta Smith as a player. I love the way that the Eagles basically just drafted him last year and tossed him out at the ex receiver position. They asked him to just win as their ISO number one guy. And he did. And he gets open.
He is a really great route runner, a really great separator, can beat press coverage. And I actually think the way that AJ Brown wins, complements DeVonta Smith really well. We know AJ Brown is much more of an over the middle of the field dominator. He wins after the catch. He wins those contested passes.
Obviously that's not quite DeVonta Smith's strengths. I love the way these two complement each other. Of course, the problem for fantasy is that a big guy like a number one target like AJ Brown being added to this offense that already threw the ball the fewest pass attempts last year, not so great for DeVonta Smith's season long ceiling. So I think he's going to be a guy that's a little volatile week to week. So I do think the Eagles will pass the ball a little bit more.
And I do think they'll be an efficient offense. The offensive line is great. Jalen Hurts, whatever you think about him as a real live quarterback, he moves the ball, especially is really great as a rusher on the ground. I think this offense can be really good. I think they can challenge to be a top 10 scoring offense.
DeVonta Smith is going to get in on some of that action. I just think it's going to be really hard to predict his big weeks and his slow weeks. So high weekly upside player, a little bit volatile. Right now I've got him as my wide receiver 39. It's the touchdown column that's going to be key for DeVonta Smith this year.
