'Devastated': Queensland driver makes epic car park mistake

A North Queensland driver has made an embarrassing bungle at a shopping centre car park.

The woman was looking for a spot in Stockland Cairns Shopping Centre’s car park on Friday about 12.30pm when she drove down the stairwell.

Queensland Police told Yahoo News Australia the woman wasn’t injured in the accident and hadn’t been drinking.

The driver was “unfamiliar” with the car park, police said. There also wasn’t any damage to property.

A photo of her mishap was shared on Facebook as police cordoned off the car before it could be removed from its predicament.

A woman who claimed to have witnessed the accident said the driver was left “devastated”.

“As funny as it might seem. The poor lady driver was devastated,” she said. “I can see how it could be done - the stairs are right next to an up ramp. Personally felt really sad for her.”

Another woman also sympathised writing, “this could have been me”.

One Facebook user compared the accident to something from “the Dukes of Hazzard”.

“Looking for a shortcut?” another joked.

Police said the incident was a “non-reportable traffic crash” and it’s unlikely the woman will face any charges.
