Detail in viral New York TikTok sends Aussies wild

Like the residents of many other US cities, New Yorkers are sports fanatics, whether it be supporting the world-famous Knicks, Yankees or the Giants.

So imagine the disbelief when eager Aussie TikTok users spotted an iconic sports jersey not many in the US, let alone people outside of Australia, would recognise.

TikTok user Zac Stempler has gained fame on the video-sharing platform by walking around New York City asking random people who the greatest athlete of all time is.

And in his latest instalment, the final stranger he stops is seen wearing the jersey of one half of one of Australia's greatest sporting rivalries.

Taking out his headphones before answering Babe Ruth, the man can be seen wearing a Maroons jersey.

While it is unclear when the clip was filmed, it was uploaded five days from the State of Origin series decider, which Queensland went on to surprisingly win.

The man's connection to the Maroons is not known and he spoke with an American accent.

The video, which has been viewed 1.8 million times, has recently been discovered by Aussies who have hijacked the comments section.

"Last dude.. kudos for the Maroons State of Origin gear," one person wrote.

"My guy," another said.

"QLD shirt in the US how good," one user commented.

"GO THE MAROONS," one comment read, while another said: "Dude wearing a QLD shirt!!!!"

Even Stempler got involved, adding: "What's up Aussie tiktok. Care for a VB?"

The Maroons claimed their second series in five years on Wednesday with a 22-12 win over the Blues, their 23rd since the annual rugby league series began in 1982.
