Desperate bush search for teen missing for two weeks

Police are scouring bushland in the Sunshine Coast region in a desperate search for a teenage boy who hasn't been seen for almost two weeks.

Michael Ryan was last seen on Beerwah Street in Landsborough on the morning of August 7.

The 14-year-old was on a black and yellow pushbike and wearing a black jacket and black wool beanie when he was last seen.

He is described as Caucasian and approximately 170 centimetres tall with a slim build and short brown hair.

His bike was discovered on Saturday while an aerial and ground search continues in bushland near the small town of Mooloolah Valley.

He has previously shown an interest in the outdoors and his phone last registered in the area two weeks ago.

"Michael's a fun-loving boy, he loves the bush," his grandmother Lloma Dunne told The Courier Mail.

The tearful Ms Dunne added it was unusual behaviour for Michael.

“This has been a very tough time… this is very unusual," she said.

The Courier Mail reported that Michael's phone was last tracked to the edge of dense bush in Landsborough but it's since been turned off.

Detective Senior Sergeant David Somerville said Michael loved exploring the bush and walking trails but said he always returned home.

"Not one you'd consider a regular runaway… it's definitely out of character,” he said.

A spokesperson for Queensland Police told Yahoo News Australia the weekend search would likely end once it was dark and commence again on Monday.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or use the online reporting page.
