Deputy PM Barnaby Joyce tests positive for Covid

Deputy Prime Minister Barnaby Joyce has tested positive for Covid-19 while in the United States.

A statement from his office said Mr Joyce, who is fully vaccinated, is in Washington DC and will remain in isolation until further advice.

“Mr Joyce said he had been experiencing mild symptoms and chose to get tested,” the statement said.

“Remaining members of the delegation have tested negative.”

The Nationals leader has been on a 10-day overseas tour and was set to meet counterparts and politicians in the US and the UK after the government introduced its plan to crack down on social media giants.

However the deputy PM's trip is in disarray now, after testing positive about a day after touching down.

Deputy Nationals leader David Littleproud said he had spoken to Mr Joyce following the positive diagnosis.

"He's isolating in the US until it's safe for him to come home and we wish him all the best for his recovery," he said on Twitter.
