Dennis Quaid Gets Emotional as He Evacuates L.A. Home
Dennis Quaid became emotional about the devastation wreaking Los Angeles while bundling his own belongings into a car to evacuate his home in the city.
The actor appeared to fight back tears as he spoke with NBC News on Friday night, having returned to his property in Brentwood to collect some final items after leaving at some point earlier on during the fast-developing crisis.
Speaking with the network’s reporter Robert Kovacik, Quaid said, “Who would have thought? We’ve all had a really big lesson… that our experience of reality can change in a moment.”
Quaid said, “I came back just in case I hadn’t shut off the gas, you know, all those little things you don’t think of and just thought, maybe I could be there to put a hose on the roof if the embers come over at least. Something like that, or help out the neighbors.
“Tuesday we woke up to this big plume of smoke. That was a real exciting day as far as here, and Palisades went up on Wednesday. It came within a 150 yards of the house,” he added. “I can’t say enough about the firefighters and the first responders in this town.”
He went on, “We’ve had it lucky. I have so many friends that have lost. My agent, he lost both of his houses. Another good friend, over the Palisades, he just moved into a house and he was renting the other one, and he lost both of them.”
With the official death toll already at 11, more than 150,000 people have been forced to flee their homes since the deadly blaze first broke out on Tuesday.
A number of well-known celebrities with properties in the area have lost their homes, including Paris Hilton, Anthony Hopkins, Anna Faris, Ben Affleck, and Miles Teller.
