Dem Sen. Chris Murphy Blasts RFK Jr. for Wanting to ‘Kill Our Kids’
A senior Democratic senator said that incoming Health Secretary RFK Jr. represents a dire threat to the welfare and lives of children across the country.
Speaking on MSNBC’s All In With Chris Hayes, Sen. Chris Murphy told Hayes that his party needed to seriously ratchet up its efforts to oppose the confirmation of President-elect Donald Trump’s nominees for his cabinet.
Hayes asked Murphy, “It seems to be that the hearings are real, right? That senators and the American public should take them as real and that these are not foregone conclusions. Is that how you approach this?”
Murphy responded, “Yeah, I do see these nominations as winnable fights, but the Democrats have to fight the fights, and frankly Chris, I don’t see that happening across the capital right now.”
He then went on, “I’ve been talking ad nauseam about how Kash Patel is being put into the FBI literally to destroy the rule of law, to enable Trump’s dream of putting his political opponents in jail.”
Murphy then rebuked one of Trump’s most controversial cabinet picks, notorious anti-vaxxer and conspiracy theorist Robert F. Kennedy Jr. for health secretary.
He said, “Why are we giving RFK Jr. a pass? OK, he wants to ban pharmaceutical advertising, that’s nice. He also wants to kill our kids by withdrawing vaccines from our schools and taking fluoride out of our drinking water.”
Murphy then renewed his calls for the Democratic Party to double down on opposing the appointment of these and other prospective members of Trump’s cabinet to office.
“Democrats have to fight these nominees, and not just like, once a week, [but] every day. Because the only way that Republicans even consider voting against them is if the temperature has been turned up all across the country,” said Murphy.
He added, “I just worry we are not working the way we need to work against a nominee slate that is just absolutely bonkers and out of the American mainstream by a million miles.”
