Daylight saving comes to an end

Hannah Higgins

Daylight saving has ended, taking with it summer's extra hour of evening sunshine.

Clocks were wound back an hour at 3am on Sunday in NSW, Victoria, Tasmania, South Australia and the ACT.

The change is good news for early birds who will now awaken to brighter mornings but many commuters will now be making their way home in the dark.

There will be no change for Queensland, Western Australia and the Northern Territory, which don't observe daylight saving.

Daylight saving will return on October 7.
