'David is the opposite of Peter': Fans weigh in on new Weekend Today

After a week of the new-look Today show, the revamped Weekend Today kicked off on Saturday, with David Campbell replacing Peter Stefanovic as host.

Viewers weighed in on day one as David joined Allison Langdon on the panel, with many stoked by Channel Nine’s new direction for 2019.

Lovely team to wake up to at the weekend. Haters go away,” a viewer wrote on Instagram.

“Pete was always stiff looking and uncomfortable. David the opposite. Soon you will be winning the ratings weekdays and weekends… and so you should.”

Another wrote: “Love David, he’s a natural with personality plus!”

Others were not so welcoming to the change, explaining they were missing Peter, who has left the network altogether.

Can’t do it, no @peter_stefanovic,” penned a viewer.

Don’t watch it anymore,” wrote another.

David will be hosting Weekend Today in 2019, while also co-hosting Today Extra with Sonia Kruger three days a week.

Richard Wilkins will co-host alongside Sonia for the other two days of the week.

Last month Peter confirmed he was leaving Channel Nine after 15 years with the network.

“Peter has decided to explore new opportunities and is looking forward to spending weekends with his wife,” read a statement from a Channel Nine representative.
