Damian Lillard drops NBA2K21 full track honoring Kobe Bryant

Portland Trail Blazers point guard Damian Lillard — or Dame D.O.L.L.A, in this case — spent last fall dropping diss tracks with Shaquille O’Neal.

This time around he’s all about the honors and dropped a tribute track for Kobe Bryant on streaming services late Thursday. The song was originally on NBA2K21, which features Lillard on the current generation game and Bryant on the Legend edition, and uses the game’s soundtrack.

The track, which features Derrick Milano and Los Angeles Lakers superfan Snoop Dogg, was teased late last month on Kobe Bryant day (Aug. 24). The cover features a Staples Center letter board that reads “Rest in Peace Kobe and Gigi.”

Bryant, his 13-year-old daughter, Gianna, and seven others died in a helicopter crash on Jan. 26 en route to a basketball game at the star’s Mamba Academy. Tributes continue to pour in for the five-time NBA champion.

In teasing the track last month, Lillard, a five-time All-Star and former rookie of the year, opened the clip with Bryant talking about Lillard’s skills in a postgame interview.

“That boy’s serious, man,” Bryant said in the clip. “He’s serious. And he’s not afraid of anything.”

The minute-long segment includes real-game highlights from Bryant and NBA2K footage of Lillard emulating his idol.
