Dad's fury over school's lunchbox 'double standard'

A furious dad has hit out at his daughter's school over its 'double standard' when it comes to children eating healthy.

Ross Hunt from the UK was praised for his "f**king petty" but hilarious TikTok rant about the school criticising the contents of children's lunchboxes.

The dad, who owns wax melt company Teddy Eva Scents, said he decided to make a label for his daughter Isabelle's lunchbox after the dinner ladies at school claimed it did not contain healthy food.

The dad showed the label that read, "We are aware of the contents of this box and are happy for Isabelle to eat whatever she wants," before he added he was infuriated by the situation.

"Basically the kids have been getting s**t from the dinner ladies about eating non-healthy food," he said as he attempted to imitate them.

"'Oh don't eat that, eat your sandwich, oh you shouldn't have that' – that sort of s**t.

"F**king irritating and it's putting Isabelle off taking her lunch with her.

"It's all right to eat the chocolate cake the school gives you but put it in their lunchbox they go, 'Oh no you shouldn't have that'."

The father added he was tempted then to pack the lunchbox full of sweets to make a point.

"Stop telling kids what they should and shouldn't eat and let the f**king parents decide," he said.

One person praised the dad and laughed at his "f**king petty" response.

"You're right, I can be next-level petty when I want to be," Ross replied.

He added if his daughter continues to receive comments about the contents of her lunchbox, he would print off an A4 piece of paper listing the nutritional value of each item with a pie chart showing how it fits into her daily nutritional needs.

In another video, he showed the contents of the lunchbox, which included rainbow drops, carrots, a sandwich, a green apple, a small bag of potato chips, a pear and a chocolate egg.

Another frustrated parent commented on the video in support of the dad's rant.

"It’s a nightmare they promote healthy eating but my child comes home saying they had pizza and chips and some cake so which part of that is healthy?" the parent said.

"Yep, it’s one rule for them and one rule for parents," Ross replied.

"I work in a school and have this argument often. I would rather a child ate and was full than lots of 'healthy' foods they won't eat," another person commented.

"Had this argument with my kid's school. My daughter got a KitKat taken off her whilst school dinners ate burgers and chocolate cake," somebody else said.

"As a teacher, I think as long as they aren’t just eating sweet stuff and are also eating something else like fruit [or] a sandwich then it shouldn’t matter!" a third added.

Aussie mum sparks debate with lunchbox

It comes after an Australian mum sparked a debate with a photo of her son's lunchbox last year.

The woman took to a Facebook group to ask if it looked like enough to feed a Grade 4 boy, with the snap sparking a flurry of responses.

The lunchbox in question featured a meat sandwich, an LCM bar, a packet of Twisties, an apple, and a Tupperware of crackers with cheese.

While many filled up the comments with helpful replies, others were quick to criticise the mum and call out the ‘processed meat’.

“I would take out the LCM, the cake and the Le Snak. Sandwich, two snacks and fruit is my general rule,” one person said.

“Too much food. Less snacks, more veggies,” another said.

Others jumped to the mum’s defence, especially when the morning show Today posted the image to their Facebook page.

“Oh my goodness! She's sending her child to school with food – yes there are processed things but there are also things that aren't. People can be so judgemental. At least she does the right thing, has food for her child and sends him to school with enough food for him to get through the day,” one person wrote.
