Dad saves kids from Melbourne house fire

A man has burns to his feet after rescuing his children from the second storey of a flaming Melbourne house.

The father-of-three ran upstairs to fetch two of his children from the fire that started when a rooftop air-conditioner caught alight, fire station officer Rod O'Sullivan told the Nine network.

The blaze started about 3.30am on Thursday and was contained to the upper level of the home and damage is estimated at $100,000.

The 45-year-old man is in Alfred Hospital with burns to his feet.
