Dad gives sad update on daughters injured in Melbourne bus crash tragedy

Gurinderdeep Singh's two daughters sustained serious injuries after the school bus they were travelling on last week was struck by a truck.

A devastated father whose two young daughters were involved in the horrific bus crash in Melbourne's west last Tuesday has given a heartbreaking update on their condition.

Sisters Gurseerat, 5, and Gurnaaz, 10, were reportedly sitting beside one another on their bus ride home from school when the vehicle was hit by a truck, knocking the bus full of school children on its side.

Their father Gurinderdeep Singh has shared his youngest daughter has sustained life-changing injuries to her arm after sitting by the window on the same side the bus tipped onto.

“The impact was so bad, Gurseerat’s arm was stuck and she couldn’t move, it was terrible for them to go through this,” he told the Herald Sun.

“Gurseerat now needs a skin graft as she has been left with lifelong injuries. Gurnaaz was also injured and her arm is in a plaster cast.”

Singh family 'devastated' by accident

The girls' grandfather was visiting the family from India and was eagerly awaiting their arrival at the bus stop when he spotted several emergency service vehicles rushing by.

“As soon as he saw the bus turn on its side, he froze and he was in complete shock,” Mr Singh explained.

Once the girls were rescued from the bus, they were immediately taken to hospital and have remained there since, with their father sharing they are completely "devastated" by the traumatic experience and they often ask relatives when they can go home.

A GoFundMe page has been created this week by a family friend in the hope of raising funds for the family while they go through an emotionally and financially difficult time. Both parents have limited work rights as they are in the country on student visas.

"Any contribution, no matter how small, would be greatly appreciated," Jagroop Kaur wrote on the fundraising page that is raised over $23,000.

Mr Singh shared that both him and his wife are incredibly appreciative of the community's support.

“We want to thank the whole community for their generosity during this very difficult time."
