Dad dies in bizarre accident while watching son’s footy game
A Brisbane dad has died after he was crushed by scaffolding while watching his son play football.
Andy Jones, 37, was watching the under-15s game at Teralba Park in Brisbane’s north on Sunday when strong winds knocked over scaffolding and crushed him, The Courier-Mail reports.
The father-of-four was rushed to hospital but pronounced dead on arrival.
His wife, Rhianne, posted an emotional tribute on Facebook saying she had lost her husband and best friend.
"We are absolutely devastated. He just went to watch his son play soccer and didn't come home,” she wrote.
A GoFundMe page made by friends of the Jones family said they are going through “the toughest time imaginable”.
“He was a loving and proud husband to Rhianne, who lived for his kids and family,” the page reads.
“Andy accomplished so much in his life and career - police, sport and fitness but his most important role was a proud dad and husband.”
A witness told The Courier-Mail they “heard an almighty bang” as the scaffolding crushed him.
Three men were able to pull Mr Jones free but he was badly injured.
“(He) kind of staggered out and collapsed on the ground,” the witness said.
A report is being prepared for the coroner as the death remains under investigation.
