Cyclone developing off WA coast

A tropical low south of Indonesia is expected to move closer to Australia's northwest coast and could develop into a cyclone, bringing heavy rain and strong winds.

The Bureau of Meteorology says the system is expected to track towards the Pilbara and reach cyclone intensity by late Monday or early Tuesday.

If the cyclone develops it will be the first off the WA coast for the 2019/20 season and will be called Tropical Cyclone Blake.

The system could also bring increased rain to central parts of Western Australia during the coming week.
