Woman outraged by new type of Aussie post office - but her rant overlooks one obvious thing

A Sydney woman who was trying to send a package to Melbourne was furious to learn the post office she went into only sent items to China.

She unloaded her frustration in a social media post, calling it unfair.

“I had to dispatch one parcel to my friend in Melbourne. I found one “Australian” Post Office and the post office’s man told me to find another Post Office because there they send items directly to China ONLY!” the woman wrote.

“What Really? Why? OMG, we are in Australian Post Office and we couldn’t send our parcels there.”

She went on to say she was “extremely disappointed with this”.

“Australia is multi cultural, the mother tongue is English and who is new here need to respect the Australia’s culture as well [sic].”

However there was a simple explanation that the angry customer had overlooked.

“It is not a post office. Had you asked instead of jumping to conclusions you would have been told that it is a concept store designed to sell Australian product direct to order [to Australia’s] biggest trading partner in the APAC region,” one person replied, adding: “Your rant is akin to walking into a brewery and wanting wine.”

According to Australia Post, the Chatswood store which was the target of the frustrated customer’s anger was set up to “test customer demand for selected products to be sent to China”.

Following the opening of the branch next to Westfield Shopping Centre in May 2018, an Australia Post spokesperson told SBS News the store is on a “limited trial and will operate in one location only”.

“This store is not a Post Office. It will sell a limited number of lines, such as health and beauty products, in conjunction with international freight options,” the spokesperson said.

In addition to beauty and health products the store also stocks baby formula which is a very popular Australian item for Chinese consumers.

According to SBS the suburb of Chatswood where the concept store is located is home to a community made up of one-third of people with Chinese ancestry.
