Customers fuming after postal worker caught throwing packages

A New Zealand postal worker has come under fire after a TikTok video revealed him tossing packages from one bin to another.

The act was filmed by TikTok user Samantha Wilson, who captioned it "Merry Christmas from NZ Post."

In the clip, the postal worker is seen grabbing boxes out of an orange bin and roughly setting them down or even throwing some of them —angering people watching it who said they've received broken or damaged goods in the mail before.

Video sparked debate

The TikTok was reportedly filmed at the Whangarei CourierPost Depot on New Zealand's North Island.

"The post man is throwing boxes from one bin to another bin so they can move them out of the rain," Ms Wilson wrote in a comment under the video.

  • Hundreds of furious customers commented on the video, divided on whether or not the courier was in the wrong.

"We use him as a courier for our store," one woman commented. "No wonder he asked us the other day if there is glass in there."

However, some commenters said you should always be extra cautious when packaging parcels.

"I don't see anything wrong with this," one user wrote. "If your package isn't packed properly that that's the packer's fault."

"This is why you package stuff well," another agreed. "Unless it has fragile on it they will throw stuff, it's easier and quicker."

"Man y'all try do this job at this time of year I bet you'll struggle," one TikToker argued.

"Uhh that's absolutely no excuse to be chucking people's packages," another responded. "If they hate their job so much they should find something else."

'Isolated incident': NZ Post

A spokesperson from NZ post told Yahoo News Australia they were "very disappointed" to see this video."

"These are not the service standards we pride ourselves on, and we are very sorry for this isolated incident," they said.

"We know the vast majority of our people are working super hard across the country to get parcels delivered in time for Christmas and take real care and pride in what they do.

"We're really disappointed that the careless actions of this one individual could undermine the hard work of our 1000s of couriers who are doing fantastic work."
