A curious four-year-old boy who tried to pick up a snake on Fraser Island has been airlifted to hospital after it bit him.
Flight paramedics say the boy was in good spirits and didn't appear to have any adverse effects, but airlifted him with his mum to Hervey Bay as a precaution.
The family wasn't sure what sort of snake it was. It slithered away after striking the boy twice.
"The family wanted to give their son a back to nature experience, but as they told us - on just the first day of his holiday, he got a little too close to nature," Aircrew Officer Shayne White said.
He is in a stable condition.
